Bulletproof Coffee: Emerson’s favorite morning brew!
The Bulletproof Executive launched to stardom when he shared one of the keys of the Bulletproof lifestyle, the bulletproof coffee- this recipe consists of high-quality coffee brewed, then blended with grass fed butter, medium chain triglycerides, and other supernutrients can be added from there. The concept has taken off in the last few years, with lots of spin-offs and online parody spoofs of the followers who swear by the positive effect it has on their body composition, energy, and mental clarity.
The concept behind bulletproof coffee is that it metabolically supports prolonging of the fasting state without leaving the drinker calorie free. The high fat (and high-quality fat) helps to provide the calories needed to sustain metabolism but without the blood sugar spike caused by most breakfasts.
At Emerson, now that we’ve got a Ninja blender in the kitchen, we’ve had some fun with the morning brew.
The recipe, from blog.bulletproof.com, is:
- Brew 1 cup (8-12 oz.) of coffee using filtered water, just off the boil, with 2 1/2 heaping tablespoons freshly ground Bulletproof Coffee Beans. (French Press is easiest.)
- Add in 1-2 tablespoons of Brain Octane™to the hot coffee (It’s STRONG – start with 1 tsp. and work up over several days).
- Add 1-2 tablespoons grass-fed, unsalted butter or grass-fed ghee
- Mix it all in a blender for 20-30 seconds until it is frothy like a foamy latte
Note that they use many proprietary ingredients that they sell- substitute good quality organic coffee and and Brain Octane is a branded version of MCT oil.
I personally love to add some cocoa powder or cinnamon to mine, but it’s up to you to get creative!
